The Three-armed Torch lamp, Daum Studio
As a first-rate glassmaker Company, Daum Studio has survived since the previous centuries. Daum worked with famous artists such as Majorelle, Dali, Arman and Hilton McConnico. The Company was founded in 1878 by Jean Daum, grew by his two sons, Auguste and Antonin Daum, and offered during 140 years their unique collection of Applied Arts.
Here you see the historical Three-Armed Torch Lamp designed and produced by Daum Company.
Their production gained a special status with their effect obtained by rolling hot glass in coloured powder glass. Daum Studio invented many glass production techniques. The powder adhered, fused, formed the glass body, and created a new outer layer. Also, they applied the landscape decorations between the glass layers in the so-called intercalary procedure. Related to one of their other professional expertise, they incorporated gold foil into the glass and disintegrated it into tiny fragments as the glass was blown out. They also used the Pâte de Verre method, casting glass paste mixed with a binding material, colourants and enamels and applied them to the inner surface of the shaped mould. The glass fused by the temperature and formed a hollow object with a different thickness and density.
Daum and Louise Majorelle had an extensive artistic collaboration. Louise Majorelle was a furniture designer, but he often collaborated on lamp design with Daum Company as glassmakers. This lamp was a production during their collective projects. Daum and Louise Majorelle formed the Nancy school as a group of Art Nouveau French designers with important figures included Émile Gallé and Jacques Grüber. They had achieved great success at the Exposition Universelle of 1900, better known in English as the 1900 Paris Exposition, which was visited by nearly 50 million art lovers worldwide.
